WITH the strategies to increase a number of tourists arrivals, Tanzania is still facing lower number of hotels in the Southern circuit.

Speaking with the journalists in Dar es Salaam, Mr. Andrea Guzzoni, Country Manager of Jovago Tanzania explained that, “There is a shortage of hotels ranging from 4-5 star hotels in the regions of Iringa, Mbeya, Mtwara, Lindi, Katavi, Rukwa, Ruvuma and Njombe.

According to the report by the Tourism Board 2014/2015, the most visited areas are Serengeti at 40%, Lake Manyara at 18%, Tarangire at 17%, Arusha at 7% and Kilimanjaro at 7%. Other tourists’ destinations take up the remaining 6%.

Dar es Salaam takes 24% of the total number of hotels in 17 regions, Arusha 10%, Kilimanjaro 6.5%, Tanga 6.6%, while the Southern part of Tanzania, Mbeya takes only 5%, Lindi 1%, Mtwara 3%, Njombe 0.8%, Iringa 2 and the remaining percentage to other regions.

The Coutry Manager explained that the Southern Circuit of Tanzania is blessed with numerous number of attractions. “There are many tourists who prefer to visit Mbozi where you can find the world’s largest Meteorites. The southern circuit is also blessed with caves and natural hot springs found in Songwe,” he said

“There are waterfalls in Rungwe (Mbeya) and Game reserve in Katavi and Ruaha, beautiful beaches at the shore of Lake Nyasa and the presence of Mount Rungwe which is the third highest Tanzania’s mountain peak after Kilimanjaro and Meru; have been enough pulling factor for tourists in these areas. However, we also need to improve on other areas of Transport and Accommodation,” Lilian Kisasa, Pr and Marketing Manager of Jovago Tanzania.

“The act of not giving the best promotion on the Southern regions results into a shortage of the number of tourists. We have noticed there is a few number of tourists arrivals in these areas due to the poor transport, lack of luxurious hotels and poor customer service,” she added.

Our goal is to make sure every tourist gets the best service and that is why we have simplified the whole process of access to the hotels via online booking. We also call upon the investors to use this opportunity to build modern world class hotels, which reach 5 star rating in the Southern circuit of Tanzania.
