TANZANIA itakuwa nchi ya kwanza katika Afrika kunufaika na makubaliano kati ya Shirika la Hali ya Hewa Duniani (WMO) na Norway ambayo lengo lake ni kuboresha huduma za hali ya hewa na tabia nchi Barani humo.

Katibu Mkuu wa WMO Michael Jarraud amemwambia Rais wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete kuwa Tanzania na Malawi ndizo nchi mbili za kwanza zilizochaguliwa na Shirika hilo kushiriki katika mpango wa majaribio wa kuboresha huduma hizo katika Afrika unaogharimiwa kwa kiasi cha dola milioni 10 za Marekani na nchi ya Norway.

“Mpango huu ni wa majaribio na tumeichagua Tanzania kwa sababu siyo kwamba nchi yako imekuwa ni nchi mfano katika Afrika kuhusu ubora wa huduma za hali ya hewa na tabia nchi, bali pia kwa sababu ya jinsi Tanzania imeunga mkono jitihada za WMO kwa miaka mingi,” Mheshimiwa Jarraud amemwambia Rais Kikwete.

Mkutano huo umefanyika jioni ya leo, Jumatano, Novemba 20, 2013 katika Hoteli ya Bristol mjini Warsaw, Poland, ambako Rais Kikwete amefikia wakati anaendelea kuhudhuria Mkutano wa Mabadiliko ya Tabia Nchi wa COP19/CMP9.

Rais Kikwete yuko Poland akiwakilisha viongozi wenzake wa Afrika katika nafasi yake ya Uenyekiti wa Kamati ya Viongozi wa Afrika Kuhusu Mabadiliko ya Tabia Nchi (CAHOSCC).

Katika mazungumzo hayo ambayo pia yamehudhuriwa na Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa Mamlaka ya Hali ya Hewa Tanzania, Dk. Agnes Kijazi, Katibu Mkuu huyo wa WMO ameishukuru pia Tanzania kwa kuwa nchi ya kwanza katika Afrika kupata hati ya TMA.

Hati hiyo ni chombo cha kimataifa kinachotoa ruhusu kwa Mamlaka ya Hali ya Hewa nchini kutoa huduma ya hali ya hewa kwa Mamlaka ya Usafiri wa Anga Tanzania.

Rais Kikwete ameishukuru sana WMO kwa misaada ambayo imekuwa inatoa kwa Tanzania na hasa katika eneo la kuongeza uwezo wa Watanzania katika eneo la hali ya hewa na tabia nchi.

Rais Kikwete na Bwana Jarraud wamekubaliana kuwa changamoto na tishio la mabadiliko ya tabia nchi duniani sasa ni tatizo la kweli na kubwa kwa hali ya baadaye ya dunia.

“Unapoona nchi kama Saudi Arabia inakumbwa na mafuriko makubwa ambayo mpaka sasa yameua watu wanne, ujue kweli kuna mabadiliko makubwa ya tabia nchi na hali ya hewa duniani. Sisi tunajua Saudia Arabia yenye jangwa na inayokabiliwa na ukame. Sasa nchi hiyo inakumbwa na mafuriko makubwa.” Bwana Jarraud amemwambia Rais Kikwete.

Kama alivyo Rais Kikwete, Katibu Mkuu huyo wa WMO yuko Poland kuhudhuria Mkutano wa COP19/CMP9.
