The Secretariat of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership has confirmed that President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete will address participants during the launch of the World Health Organization’s Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030 and the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership’s Action and Investment to defeat Malaria 2016-2030 in Addis Ababa on Monday the 13th of July, 2015.
President Kikwete has played a crucial role in the which has placed Tanzania as a leading example.
Given the important role that Tanzania has played as a partner to the global malaria community helping to advance progress toward malaria elimination and unlock potential across the board, in line with the forthcoming SDGs.
This launch event will take place at a time when the world is also gathering in Addis Ababa for the 3rd UN International Financing for Development Conference.
The World Health Organization’s Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030 and the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership’s Action and Investment to defeat Malaria 2016-2030, provide a strategic framework toward malaria elimination, in line with the 2030 targets outlined in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set to be adopted later this September. The strategies will be presented during a discussion on “financing for malaria elimination” that RBM and partners are organizing.
A New Vision: GTS & AIM
The WHO Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030 (GTS) guides the development of tailored country programs to reduce malaria burden and accelerate progress toward elimination and underlines the need to ensure universal coverage of core malaria interventions and identifies areas where innovative solutions will be required to reach goals, while the RBM Partnership’s Action and Investment to defeat Malaria 2016-2030 (AIM) — for a malaria-free world serves as a guide for collective action, innovation and financing to foster an enabling environment toward malaria elimination. Together, the two documents provide a comprehensive framework toward elimination targets, outlining concrete malaria milestones in 2020 and 2025 to measure progress.
