PREMIUM Serengeti Lager has won the top quality award among the Diageo products across Africa. According to Global Beer Technical Centre (GBTC) based in Dublin, Ireland, the brand won the accolades after a rigorous analysis.
A statement issued in Dar es Salaam today by SBL which brews the beer brand said that the test is done after sending samples to the GBTC on a regular basis from more than 45 breweries across the globe which are wholly owned by Diageo and third party operations.
“Based on these analytical and sensory results, Serengeti Lager is the top performing beer from all the Diageo sites in Africa for sensory and analytical compliance”, the statement says.
According to the statement, the sensory analysis was carried out by an expert trained panel with more than 13 years experience, who look for the ideal levels of positive brand attributes, true to typness, as well as the presence of any slight deviation or non positive. The statement further added that physical and chemical analysis is also carried out where the beers are tested for 45 different attributes.
Such attributes include alcohol level, colour, bitterness, clarity, head retention, among others and compared against a defined specification. On his part, SBL Managing Director, Mr Richard Wells said it was a big honour for Serengeti Lager which has proved a beer of choice in Tanzania, to be picked for the top award.
“I would like to congratulate the master brewer Colman Hanna, Donald Ritte, our Dar Brewer and Supply Chain Director Mark Taylor for this delightful recognition and I do know that consistent quality results are always a matter of great team effort”, he said. He added: Therefore I would like to recognize all production people at SBL and today in Dar es Salaam for their brewing excellence and unwavering attention to quality performance”.
He said that consumers of Premium Serengeti Lager can be confident that the brand is one of the best tasting and highest quality beers across the whole of Africa. East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), a subsidiary of multinational brewing company, Diageo, acquired majority stake in SBL in 2009.
Since the acquisition, SBL products have been winning consumers’ confidence and are placed among the top brands in the market at the moment.
