MISS Universe Tanzania 2011 Nelly Kamwelu is in New York and has started her studied in acting at the New York Film Academy. New York Film Academy-School of Film and Acting (NYFA) is a for-profit film school and acting school based in New York City. Nelly’s enrollment is part of her scholarship to the institution that she was awarded when she won the Miss Universe Tanzania title.
Nelly Kamwelu won the Miss Universe Tanzania and Miss Southern Africa International titles in 2011. She represented Tanzania in Miss Universe 2011 in São Paulo, Brazil, Miss International 2011 in China, Miss Earth 2011 in Manila, Philippines, and Miss Tourism Queen International in China.
Nelly is the only beauty queen who has competed in four Grand Slam Pagents (Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth and Miss Tourism Queen International) in a single year. Nelly has featured in Music Videos of Tanzanian Musicians and also recorded a song Say it to my face before her departure for Miss Universe 2011. The song was released on YouTube while she was participating in the beauty contest in São Paulo, Brazil 2011.
New York Film Academy’s programs include film directing, film producing, screenwriting, cinematography, film editing, documentary filmmaking and courses in acting. Since 2010, Miss Universe Tanzania has been sponsored by NYFA and all winners (Hellen Dausen, Nelly Kamwelu and Winfrida Dominic) have attended the Academy. Betty Omara, Miss Universe Tanzania 2013 will get her chance to attend the Academy once she hands over her crown this October.
