All indicators show Dr Slaa has backed down on his false allegations on Andrew Chenge by failing to deliver relevant documents that prove beyond reasonable doubt his allegations. The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Eleiezer Feleshi has said currently there is no exhibit delivered at his office by anybody concerning the issue of BAE scam despite vocal allegations on the same.
He said if there is any one who has the legal exhibits he/she should hand over to them or any government office so that investigations could be done and come out with viable results for prosecution.
He told The African which asked him if there was any progress on exhibits from any Tanzanian brought to him to show that Andrew Chenge is also responsible for the radar scandal as alleged by protagonists in the opposition. “According to the law if any Tanzanian has crime exhibits concerning any issue which have the potential to prosecute the alleged persons in any saga including that of Chenge, should surrender it to enable the government to do more investigations,” he said.
This stand is countered by Dr Slaa who over the phone 0783967519 said he had already delivered the exhibits over the weekend as promised on Friday. The big question is who is saying the truth and who is lying and for what reasons?
Last Friday, Dr Wilbroad Slaa, the Secretary General of CHADEMA told journalists that Andrew Chenge was involved in the radar scandal and that there was a need for the government to take legal measures against him instead of covering up for him.
Dr Slaa made the contradictory remarks even after the ruling was made on the issue last Tuesday by the government at the ongoing parliamentary session, by the Minister for State in the President’s Office, Mathias Chikawe, who denied any serious implications showing that Andrew Chenge was responsible for the BAE scandal long closed by the British Court. “If our government really considers much in good governance picture of our country in the world then this issue is a big measure and it must make sure that legal measures are made against the alleged as all the evidences are there,” said Dr Slaa showing a bunch of papers deemed to be evidence he promised to deliver to the DPP office.
Mr Chikawe said the investigations in Britain by the SFO and here in Tanzania only implicated Sailesh Vithlan, who was the broker in the deal, and two BAE system officials and cleared Chenge, the Former Attorney General. Accordingly the report handed over to National Assembly Speaker Anne Makinda by Special Parliamentary team in Dodoma on Tuesday advised the government to sue BAE system if the British company fails to pay 73.8bn/- reparations ordered by a United Kingdom court last year.
