COUNCIL for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), launched the 2015 CECAFA–KAGAME Club Cup tournament in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday July 1 2015. The Kagame Interclub cup tournament will officially commence on the 18th July and end on the 2nd of August in Dar es Salaam.
According to CECAFA, a total of 13 clubs will take part in the two weeks championship competing for the prize of 60,000 USD, issued by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, the CECAFA’s patron. The Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye argued that the teams will be divided into three pools, (A, B, C); Group A teams are Young Africans (Tanzania), GorMahia (Kenya), Kmkm (Zanzibar), Telecom (Djibouti), Khartoum-N (Sudan), Group B – APR (Rwanda), AlShandy (Sudan), LLB FC (Bur), Heegan (Somalia) and Group C – Azam (Tanzania), Malakia (South Sudan), Adama (Ethiopia) and KCCA (Uganda).
Last year El-Merreikh was crowned the 2014 KAGAME Champion in Kigali, Rwanda after winning the trophy. The question to ask is, will Tanzanian clubs win the title at the home? The last time the tournament was hosted in the country was in 2012 when Yanga came up as the winner. Then what about Azam, will they let it go?
