JOSEPH Mwangi and Fenton Odhiambo from, Dar es Salaam became the first Kenyan winners on the Guinness Football Challenge last night. Fighting off tough competition from the other teams from Tanzania and Uganda, as well as the two-time-winners from last week’s show, the dynamic duo showed great skill and knowledge to win big cash prizes in the not-to-be-missed TV game show phenomenon.
In the first round, Picture Trivia and Free Kick, the Kenyan and Ugandan teams, along with last week’s winning team, all scored well, meaning the Tanzanian team was the first to leave this week’s show. Round 2 saw the three teams clock close scores in the Formation Round, with the Kenyan team just in the lead giving them five balls going into the Bullseye Challenge, which was demonstrated by Kalusha Bwalya.
The skill contestants excelled in this challenge, scoring some great points and putting themselves in first place going into the semi final with last week’s winners in second, leaving the Ugandan team to say goodbye.
The semi final was closely fought with the two teams evenly matched on scores, meaning they faced a tiebreak question to determine who had the chance to play the Guinness® Money Wall. Despite last week’s winners rushing in first, they got their answer wrong and it was the Kenyan team through to the final and responsible for knocking the two-time-winners off the top spot.
The Guinness® Money Wall was topped up with the rollover money from last week’s show putting a USD58K up for grabs. The brain put in an impressive performance answering all his questions correctly, and despite a shaky start, his partner hit three of the targets in quick succession, giving them an impressive USD12K to take home. They will be back again next week to face three new teams and see if they can win even more cash!
