IT must come as no surprise for me to tell you that I love football. It’s been my life for many years and it always will be, which is why I was such a big fan of the first series of TV’s Guinness Football Challenge
. So to be asked to be a part of the show’s second season is a huge honour for me – and from what I’ve experienced from my involvement so far, it’s been great fun, too!
For starters I’ve been able to spend a lot time with three treasures of African football in Marcel Desailly, Jay Jay Okocha and Kalusha Bwalyawho are my fellow Legends on series two of the show.
If you didn’t catch the first series, the basic idea behind the Guinness Football Challenge is to combine football trivia knowledge with actual physical skills. Each team consists of two players – the first is the brains who takes on the football trivia questions, while the second, the brawn, has the job of trying to complete the various physical challenges thrown their way. And our job as Legends is to dig deep into our years of experience to show the contestants how to complete those tricky physical tests.
Some people have asked whether we’re a bit long in the tooth to be demonstrating skills but having filmed some of the show at Marcel Desailly’s Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana, I can safely say that all four of us have still got a fair few skills in the locker! Who knows, maybe you’ll think otherwise – you’ll have to tune in to the show to find out and then you can be the judge!
Season 2 of the Guinness Football Challenge will not only see a bigger show with a bigger audience and bigger cash prizes, but there will also be some brand new physical challenges on offer.
Just like life as a top level professional footballer, the whole essence of the Guinness Football Challenge is about achieving greatness and in order to sort out the men from the boys, Season 2’s challenges will be the ultimate test for competitors.
It really will be the opportunity of a lifetime, giving certain lucky football lovers the chance to rise to the challenge, demonstrate their passion for football and win even bigger cash prizes. I can’t go into too much detail about the challenges at this stage, as I don’t want to give the game away – once again you’ll just have to tune in to find out!
And then of course comes the grand finale of Season Two, which I’m really excited about. The Legends Special episode will see Marcel, Jay Jay, Kalusha and I each be partnered with one of the highest scoring consumers who have been playing the Guinness Football Challenge
game on their mobile phones.
We will be battling it out against each other to see who tops the league and I can already tell it’s going to get very competitive! As soon as we got the ball at our feet while filming in Accra we were all trying our best to out-do each other with our skills, so once the element of real competition is introduced I’m sure our in-built desire to win will quite literally kick in!
I for one will be keeping an eye on the contestants during the series to see if I can get any hints as to how best approach the challenges – anything for an edge! And who knows, if you play the mobile game, we could be teamed together in search of glory so make sure you sign up now at m.guinnessvip.com.
