Speaking to invited dignitaries today during the official launching of the HIV Corridor Economic Empowerment Innovation Fund in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Labour and Employment, Ms Gaudentia Kabaka (MP) said that all what they need is commitment from all stakeholders by abiding to ethics and professionalism during the course of the project activities.

“I also have been informed that the programme aims at attaining increased availability of social and economic services to vulnerable groups which includes increased access to HIV and Aids prevention and impact mitigation service,” she said.

She said that the government appreciates the work that has been done by the ILO and SIDA for coming up with the programme which is going to be implemented in six countries such as Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

On his part International Labour Organization (ILO), Deputy Director in Tanzania, Hopolang Phororo said that the project seeks to complement conventional methods of HIV prevention.

“This is by stimulating economic opportunities through the promotion of decent work for populations located along selected transport corridors,

“In order to provide viable empowerment channels to mitigate the impact of the HIV and Aids epidemic for these vulnerable communities,” she said.

She added that, at the same time, the project equips people with relevant information on HIV prevention and facilitates access to treatment, care and support, thereby contributing towards Zero New HIV infections.
