DESPITE the existence of East African Common Market protocol and the fact that the volume of businesses between Tanzania and Kenya is the largest in East Africa region, there are various challenges faced by cross border businesses in bilateral trading.
In view of the magnitude of these challenges, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) in collaboration with the Kenya High Commission, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania shall convene stakeholder’s consultative business platform to share experiences, deliberate and recommend to the EAC Ministries on efficient ways of doing cross border business.
In view of the various challenges faced by cross border businesses in bilateral trading, TPSF has collaborated with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) in convening a bilateral business meeting between Kenya private sector and Tanzania private sector. This is the first bilateral meeting and TPSF shall organize series of such meetings with other EAC Partner States private sector.
This first meeting will attract more than 150 business companies from Kenya and Tanzania.
The proposed meeting shall provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and coming up with proposals for improving efficiency in ways of doing business between the two countries. The objectives of the meeting are-
a) To review cross border industrialization and investment initiatives
b) To share experience and challenges in the customs regime framework (tax compliance and remissions)
c) To discuss the EAC Sectoral Council of Ministers on trade and industry decisions and their implications.
SOME EXPECTED OUTCOMES AFTER THE MEETING:

 Improving trust and relationships between Kenya and Tanzania business fronts.
 Platform for discussing general issues hampering doing business between the two counties.
 To come up with a list of recommendations to Governments to address the challenges and improve doing business in East Africa.
 Provide input into National Technical Committees on implementation of the EA Common Market Protocol.
 Clarify misunderstandings on specific issues raised by various businesses especially that of Rule of Origin and Duty Remissions Act
